Questions, answered
How the scan measures, what it keeps, and how to keep it out.
Q:How does the page analyzer measure my images?
A real browser loads the page you name, the way a visitor would, and records every image it fetches, lazy ones included. Each image then goes through the same engine as the tool on the home page, twice: once in its own format at automatic quality, once in the best web format, AVIF or WebP. The bytes on the report are what came out of the engine, not an estimate.
Q:Why is the load time an estimate?
Because we do not measure your visitors’ connections. The seconds are the image bytes divided by the throughput of Lighthouse’s slow 4G phone profile, 1.6 Mbps, before with the bytes we found and after with the bytes the engine produced. Round trips are not counted. The report says “estimated” beside every time figure for that reason.
Q:Does it scan my whole site?
No. One page per scan, the one whose address you pasted, and only the images that page loads. Scan the pages that matter: the home page, a product page, a post.
Q:Does the scan web-optimize my photos, or only measure them?
It only measures them. Each image goes through the engine in memory to find the saving, and nothing on your site changes. To web-optimize the photos, drop them into the tool, up to 50 at a time with no signup. Or send them through the API. Then fix the three habits the report checks: lazy loading below the fold, a srcset for phones, and AVIF or WebP.
Q:What do you keep after a scan?
The address you typed, the numbers, a screenshot of the page and who ran the scan, for 30 days or until you delete the report. The images on the page pass through the engine in memory and are never stored.
Q:Why does the report ask me to sign up?
The summary is free for anyone: how many images, how heavy, how much lighter they could be. The full report, every image with its fix, the downloads and the share link, is for members. An account is free and needs no card.
Q:Why are some images “not measured”?
SVG is a vector file and GIF, BMP and TIFF are not formats we compress, so they are counted and listed but not measured. So is an animated file, an image over 24 megapixels, and anything past the scan’s cap. The table says why for each one.
Q:How do I stop Blinkimg scanning my site?
Add a group for BlinkimgBot to your robots.txt: “User-agent: BlinkimgBot” on one line and “Disallow: /” on the next. A scan of a page under that rule stops and says so.
Q:How many pages can I scan a day?
5 without an account, 25 on a free account, 100 on Pro and 500 on Pro Max. The same page scanned again within an hour reuses the first scan.
Q:Is a shared report public?
Yes. A report you claim gets a short link, and anyone with the link sees the whole report: the address, the screenshot and every number. Share it where you would share the page itself. Delete the report and the link stops working.
