How to compress an image to 100 KB, at or under the number

A 0 to 120 KB scale with the 100 KB cap marked: our 9.8 MB camera photo landed under it at 97.3 KB. The cap is 100,000 bytes, and the result is at or under it, never over.

Drop your image: the 100 KB cap is already armed, and the result comes back at or under 100,000 bytes, never over. EXIF and GPS come off every output, and files are wiped automatically. How the search trades quality against pixels, and the camera photo at every cap, are on the compress image to 50 KB page. Pixels the real problem? Resize image. The portal dictates the crop too? Crop image.

Compress an image under 100 KB: two real files, measured

SourceCapResultDimensionsNote
Reference photo100 KB99.7 KB1920×1280quality search alone
Camera photo100 KB97.3 KB4964×2782quality search alone

Sources: photo.jpg, 576.8 KB at 1920×1280, and source.jpeg, 9.8 MB at 4964×2782.

Every byte count is the size of the actual file our engine produced from the named source, the same bytes you would download, not an estimate. The reference photo is one of our own photographs, an iguana on a branch, and the camera photo is a real one too. Drop your own file into the tool above to rerun any of them. How we measure names the sources and the settings.

The 100 KB jobs: applications, ID cards, KYC and email

Our 576.8 KB reference photo, a JPEG, becomes 99.7 KB under the 100 KB cap, keeping its full 1920×1280 dimensions and most of its visible quality. Fifty attachments take the same cap in one batch and come back as one ZIP.

One hundred kilobytes is the workhorse cap: job-application portals, KYC document uploads, ID-card photos, school admission systems, and every "attachment too large" email bounce. It is also the friendliest target. Our reference photo kept its full 1920×1280 dimensions and most of its visible quality at 99.7 KB. You have to study the compare slider to find the difference. Batches work the same way: fifty attachments under one cap, one ZIP back. If your portal says 100 KB, this page is the whole errand. Drop, download, upload.

8 ways forms and searches name one job, from image compressor to 100 KB and photo compressor to 100 KB to JPG 100 KB and less than 100 KB, all arriving at one page: compress to 100 KB, never over.

Image compressor to 100 KB, photo compressor to 100 KB, resize image to 100 KB, 100 KB converter, JPG 100 KB, 100 KB photo size: one job, a file at or under 100 KB. Compress image to, in, under, below or less than 100 KB: this page, with the cap armed.

What does “100 KB photo size” mean?

The file’s weight on disk, not its pixels: a JPG at or under 100 KB. When a portal also rules on pixels, it states them separately, in px or cm, and the crop tool’s presets cover that rule.

Questions, answered

The cap is already armed above. One drop settles most of these.

Will the result be exactly 100 KB, or under it?

At or under, never over: that is the whole guarantee. The search maximises quality within the budget, so a result lands close beneath the cap when the image needs the room and further under when it does not. Under this page's 100 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 97.3 KB and our 576.8 KB reference photo at 99.7 KB. The readout under each result prints the exact bytes.

Does reducing the dimensions help an image compress to 100 KB?

Enormously: pixels are what bytes pay for. Under this 100 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo kept all 4964×2782 pixels and landed at 97.3 KB, so quality alone paid for the bytes. For a tight target, set Max resolution in Advanced settings yourself: it gives the quality search far more room to keep the face sharp. The engine shrinks a picture on its own only when the cap demands it.

What do "compress image in 100 KB", "compress image less than 100 KB", "100 KB converter" and "JPG 100 KB" mean?

The same thing portals ask for in their own words: a file that comes out as a JPG at or under 100 KB. This page is that converter. It preselects JPEG output, arms the 100 KB cap, and prints the exact bytes beside the result, so the words on the form and the file you upload finally agree.

Will a JPG compress to 100 KB and still work as an ID or KYC photo?

Comfortably. 100 KB carries a full-resolution document or ID photo with visible quality to spare. Our 576.8 KB reference photo landed at 99.7 KB with dimensions untouched. Save your worry for tiny caps. At 100 KB, the compare slider usually shows a difference you have to hunt for.

How do I compress a photo to 100 KB for email?

Same flow: the cap does not care where the file is headed. Fifty attachments fit in one batch. Each is guaranteed under the cap, and you download them together as one ZIP. A 25 MB inbox limit suddenly fits an entire folder of photos.

Should I pick 100 KB or just use Auto quality?

If a system gave you the number, use the number. The cap guarantees compliance. If nothing demands a size, Auto usually lands smaller than you expect anyway, and it never risks quality on an arbitrary budget. The cap is for rules. Auto is for judgement.

How do I compress a JPEG to 100 KB?

Drop it with the cap armed; a JPEG is the friendliest input. The engine re-encodes it at the highest quality that fits under 100,000 bytes and keeps the dimensions whenever it can. Our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 97.3 KB with all 4964×2782 pixels, 101 times smaller with nothing cropped or shrunk. Our 576.8 KB reference photo landed at 99.7 KB at its 1920×1280. The readout under the row prints the exact bytes.

How do I compress a photo to below 100 KB, not just to it?

The cap is a ceiling, so every result is already below it: 97.3 KB for our 9.8 MB camera photo, 99.7 KB for our reference photo. The trap is the unit: a checker counting 1,024-byte kilobytes reads a file of 100,000 bytes as 97.7 KB, still under, and a portal that re-encodes your upload measures its own output. For a margin under a "less than 100 KB" rule, type 90 as the Max file size.

Which forms want a JPG under 100 KB?

India's GST registration guide wants the photograph of the promoter or authorised signatory as a JPEG of at most 100 KB. IGNOU's July 2026 admission portal wants the passport photograph and the signature each as a JPEG under 100 KB. UPSC's instructions put the three-signature file between 20 and 100 KB. Each of those is a ceiling a 100 KB cap meets, and the readout under the result shows you the exact bytes before you upload.
