Convert WebP to PDF

A WebP to PDF converter puts each WebP image on its own page of one PDF. The PDF format has no WebP image type, so every page becomes a JPEG at Auto; our 611.2 KB WebP made a 272 KB PDF. Part of the image to PDF converter.

How big is a WebP as a PDF?

One real file, measured through the same path your files take.

SourceSizePage in the PDFPDF
WebP611.2 KBJPEG, 271 KB272 KB
JPG576.8 KBJPEG, 273.9 KB275 KB
PNG4,096.3 KBPNG, 994.3 KB1,314.4 KB

Sources: photo.webp (611.2 KB), photo.jpg (576.8 KB) and photo.png (4,096.3 KB), our 1920 × 1280 reference photo saved in three formats, each planned as the converter plans it (the WebP to a JPEG page, the JPG as a JPEG, the PNG as a PNG, all at Auto) and assembled by the same code as the server. The rows are the real output.

Every byte count is the size of the actual file our engine produced from the named source, the same bytes you would download, not an estimate. The reference photo is one of our own photographs, an iguana on a branch, and the camera photo is a real one too. Drop your own file into the tool above to rerun any of them. How we measure names the sources and the settings.

Why does a WebP become a JPEG page in the PDF?

Our reference photo saved as a 1920 × 1280 WebP of 611.2 KB, into a PDF: the page inside becomes a 271 KB JPEG at Auto, because a PDF has no WebP image type, and the PDF weighs 272 KB.

Because the PDF format has no WebP image type. A PDF stores pictures in a handful of encodings, JPEG among them, and WebP is not one, so every WebP to PDF converter decodes the picture and saves it again. Here the engine saves each page as a JPEG at Auto, the quality it picks to keep the look. Our 611.2 KB WebP became a 271 KB page and a 272 KB PDF. The WebP to JPG page makes the same JPEG when you want the images themselves.

Is a PDF from a WebP smaller than one from a JPG or PNG?

Our reference photo as a PDF from three formats, measured: from the WebP 272 KB, from the JPG 275 KB, from the PNG 1,314.4 KB, because a PNG page stays a PNG while the WebP and the JPG become JPEG pages.

About the same as a JPG, and far smaller than a PNG. We ran our reference photo, 1920 × 1280, through the converter from three formats. From the WebP the PDF came to 272 KB, from the JPG 275 KB: both pages are JPEGs at Auto. From the PNG it came to 1,314.4 KB, because a PNG page stays a PNG. So there is no need to turn a WebP into a JPG before making the PDF; drop the WebP as it is.

What happens to a transparent WebP in a PDF?

A transparent WebP two ways into a PDF: dropped as it is, the page becomes a JPEG and the clear areas are filled white; converted to PNG first, the page stays a PNG and keeps its transparency over the white sheet.

Dropped as it is, the clear areas turn white. The page becomes a JPEG, and JPEG has no transparency, so the engine fills those areas with white before saving it. That suits most stickers and logos, since the PDF sheet is white anyway. To keep the transparency inside the file, convert the WebP with WebP to PNG first and drop the PNGs: a PNG page keeps its alpha channel over the white sheet.

Can I convert an animated WebP to PDF?

An animated WebP dropped for a PDF is refused with a message instead of being cut down to its first frame; a still WebP becomes a page as usual.

Not as an animation, and the converter says so instead of guessing. A PDF page shows one still picture, and the engine refuses an animated WebP rather than cutting it to its first frame and calling that a conversion. Save the frame you want as a still image first, with a screenshot or an editor, then drop that. Still WebP files, the kind a browser saves from a web page, convert as usual.

  • You want the pictures as images

For JPGs to upload or share one by one, convert WebP to JPG instead. A PDF sends the set as one document.

  • You need pixel-exact pages

The WebP is saved again as a JPEG page. Convert to PNG at quality 100 first when every pixel must match the source.

  • The WebP is an animation

A PDF page is a still. Keep the animated file as WebP or GIF for anywhere it needs to move.

Every format and budget, one PDF

The same converter under the name your file has, or with the size your form demands already armed. Under it, or a clear error, and never over.

Questions, answered

Short answers for this format. Drop a file above and the PDF settles the rest.

How do I convert WebP to PDF for free?

Drop the WebP files on the converter at the top of the page. Each one becomes a page of one PDF, in drop order, and the PDF downloads on its own with no signup and no watermark. Up to 10 WebP images fit in one drop, and they can share a PDF with JPG, PNG and HEIC files.

Does converting WebP to PDF reduce quality?

Slightly, and by design. The WebP is decoded and saved again as a JPEG page at Auto quality, the setting the engine picks to keep a photo looking the same. Our 611.2 KB WebP became a 271 KB page. For pixel-exact pages, convert the WebP to PNG first and drop the PNGs instead.

Why do I have WebP files at all?

Most often because a browser saved the picture in the format the website sent. Many sites serve their images as WebP, and a right-click save keeps that format rather than turning it into a JPG. WebP is fine on the web and awkward in a document, which is where a PDF comes in.

Can I convert WebP to PDF on my phone?

Yes, in the phone browser. Open this page, tap the drop zone and pick the WebP files from Files or Photos. The PDF lands in your downloads, and the Share sheet sends it on from there. It works the same on Android, iPhone and iPad, with nothing to install.

What size are the PDF pages?

A4, one sheet per image, turned to match it: a wide WebP gets a landscape sheet and a tall or square one an upright sheet. The picture is scaled to fit the sheet with its shape kept and centred on white, so small web images fill the page instead of floating in a corner.

Can I keep the WebP to PDF file under a size limit?

Yes. Open Advanced settings and type a Max PDF size, such as 500 KB. The budget is split across the pages before anything uploads, and every page is saved under its share, so the PDF lands at or under the number. The JPG to PDF budget pages take WebP files as well.

Is it safe to convert WebP images of documents?

We keep nothing. Files are processed and wiped automatically, deleted within 24 hours of upload at the latest, and never used for anything else. EXIF metadata is stripped from every page by default, and no account is attached to what you convert.

Can I convert a PDF back to WebP?

Not here. The converter builds PDFs from images, one page per picture, and does not take a PDF apart again. Keep the original WebP files if you may need them as images later: the PDF is the way to send or print them as one document.
