How to compress an image to 30 KB, at or under the number

A 0 to 36 KB scale with the 30 KB cap marked: our 9.8 MB camera photo landed under it at 24.3 KB. The cap is 30,000 bytes, and the result is at or under it, never over.

Drop your image: the 30 KB cap is already armed, and the result comes back at or under 30,000 bytes, never over. EXIF and GPS come off every output, and files are wiped automatically. How the search trades quality against pixels, and the camera photo at every cap, are on the compress image to 50 KB page. Pixels the real problem? Resize image. The portal dictates the crop too? Crop image.

Compress an image under 30 KB: two real files, measured

SourceCapResultDimensionsNote

Sources: photo.jpg, 576.8 KB at 1920×1280, and source.jpeg, 9.8 MB at 4964×2782. Where the quality search alone could not fit, the engine shrank the dimensions.

Every byte count is the size of the actual file our engine produced from the named source, the same bytes you would download, not an estimate. The reference photo is one of our own photographs, an iguana on a branch, and the camera photo is a real one too. Drop your own file into the tool above to rerun any of them. The 30 KB jobs: Kerala PSC photos and signatures, pixels and bytes in one pass

Kerala PSC's profile photo drawn at 150 × 200 pixels, as its photo instruction states: a JPG not exceeding 30 KB, with your name and the photo's date printed on it. The signature beside it is 150 × 100, also not over 30 KB.

Thirty kilobytes is the state-commission number, and it comes with a pixel spec attached. Kerala PSC's photo instruction wants the profile photo 150 px wide by 200 px high, as a JPG not exceeding 30 KB. Your name and the date of the photo must be printed on it. The same instruction wants the scanned signature at 150×100 px, also not over 30 KB. That pairing is the point of this page. A 150×200 photo at 30 KB is easy; a 4964×2782 phone photo at 30 KB is not. Our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 24.3 KB only after the engine shrank it to 982×550 pixels. Crop to the stated size first, in the editor's Custom size box. The cap re-runs on the cropped file with the whole budget for the face. Thirty is also where an old NTA signature rule lived, which is why prep sites still print it for NEET. The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin puts the signature at 10 to 100 KB and the photograph at 10 to 200 KB. The old 4 to 30 KB rule is gone. Read the year's bulletin before you cap a NEET file at 30.

Can I compress an image to 35 KB instead?

Yes. Type 35 into Max file size, with KB as the unit: the field takes any number from 10 KB up, not only the 30 this page arms, and the result lands at or under it. Under 30 KB our 9.8 MB camera photo had to shrink to 982×550 pixels to fit, at 24.3 KB, so the extra 5 KB gives the search a little more room.

Image compressor to 30 KB, photo compressor to 30 KB, resize image to 30 KB, 30 KB converter, JPG 30 KB, 30 KB photo size: one job, a file at or under 30 KB. Compress image to, in, under, below or less than 30 KB: this page, with the cap armed.

What does “30 KB photo size” mean?

The file’s weight on disk, not its pixels: a JPG at or under 30 KB. When a portal also rules on pixels, it states them separately, in px or cm, and the crop tool’s presets cover that rule.

Questions, answered

The cap is already armed above. One drop settles most of these.

Will the result be exactly 30 KB, or under it?

At or under, never over: that is the whole guarantee. The search maximises quality within the budget, so a result lands close beneath the cap when the image needs the room and further under when it does not. Under this page's 30 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 24.3 KB and our 576.8 KB reference photo at 26.8 KB. The readout under each result prints the exact bytes.

Does reducing the dimensions help an image compress to 30 KB?

Enormously: pixels are what bytes pay for. Under this 30 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo had to come down from 4964×2782 to 982×550 before any quality level fit, and landed at 24.3 KB. For a tight target, set Max resolution in Advanced settings yourself: it gives the quality search far more room to keep the face sharp. The engine shrinks a picture on its own only when the cap demands it.

What do "compress image in 30 KB", "compress image less than 30 KB", "30 KB converter" and "JPG 30 KB" mean?

The same thing portals ask for in their own words: a file that comes out as a JPG at or under 30 KB. This page is that converter. It preselects JPEG output, arms the 30 KB cap, and prints the exact bytes beside the result, so the words on the form and the file you upload finally agree.

The form wants 150×200 px and 30 KB. Can I do both in one pass?

Yes, in two steps that end in one file. Drop the photo, open Edit on its row, and type the width and height into the Crop tab's Custom size box. Save, and the cropped file runs again under the armed cap. Kerala PSC's photo instruction states 150×200 px and not over 30 KB. That order, pixels first and bytes second, keeps the face sharp: a small frame leaves the whole budget for detail.

Will a face still be clear at 30 KB?

At the pixel size a portal asks for, yes. Our 576.8 KB reference photo came back at 26.8 KB with all 1920×1280 pixels. A 150×200 px portal photo is a fraction of that. The cost shows when you leave a phone photo at full size. Then the engine lowers quality until the file fits and shrinks the frame when no quality does. Crop first and the compare slider has little to show.

My photo is 30 KB but I have not matched the pixel size. Will the portal reject it?

Often, yes. Portals check the pixel size and the byte size as two separate rules, and a file can pass one and fail the other. Read the notice for the pixel spec and crop to it in the editor's Custom size box. Then let the cap handle the bytes. Without a stated pixel spec, keep the frame modest: our 9.8 MB camera photo had to shrink to 982×550 to fit 30 KB.

How do I get a signature scan under 30 KB?

Crop to the ink first. Kerala PSC's photo instruction wants the scanned signature at 150×100 px and not over 30 KB, so type that width and height into the Crop tab's Custom size box, save, and the armed cap runs on the cropped file. Black ink on white paper in a 150×100 frame costs JPEG very little, so the result lands well under 30,000 bytes with every stroke intact. Keep JPEG as the output; the instruction names JPG.

Does compressing a photo to 30 KB change its dimensions?

Only when no quality level fits, and the readout tells you. Our 576.8 KB reference photo kept all 1920×1280 pixels at 26.8 KB; the bytes came out of the quality setting alone. Our 9.8 MB camera photo could not fit at 4964×2782, so the engine brought it to 982×550 and landed at 24.3 KB. Set Max resolution to the form's stated pixels yourself and the search never has to choose the frame for you.

Can I compress a photo and a signature to 30 KB together?

Yes, when both share the number, as they do at Kerala PSC: the profile photo and the signature are each capped at 30 KB. Crop each to its stated pixels first, 150×200 for the photo and 150×100 for the signature, then drop both. One cap applies to every file in the batch, each row prints its size, and the ZIP keeps the filenames. Where a form gives the two files different numbers, run two batches at two caps.
