How to compress an image to 300 KB, at or under the number

A 0 to 360 KB scale with the 300 KB cap marked: our 9.8 MB camera photo landed under it at 292.8 KB. The cap is 300,000 bytes, and the result is at or under it, never over.

Drop your image: the 300 KB cap is already armed, and the result comes back at or under 300,000 bytes, never over. EXIF and GPS come off every output, and files are wiped automatically. How the search trades quality against pixels, and the camera photo at every cap, are on the compress image to 50 KB page. Pixels the real problem? Resize image. The portal dictates the crop too? Crop image.

The 300 KB jobs: NEET certificates, UPSC forms and CV uploads

The 300 KB rules are windows: NEET's scanned certificates as PDFs at 50 KB to 300 KB and its passport-size photo at 10 KB to 200 KB, UPSC's 300 KB ceiling with a 20 KB floor, Naukri's CV at 300 KB. Our camera photo landed at 292.8 KB.

Three hundred kilobytes is the big-file cap. The NTA's NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin wants each scanned certificate as a PDF of 50 KB to 300 KB. The passport-size photo on the same form is 10 KB to 200 KB, and the postcard photo is no longer uploaded: it is printed at 4 by 6 inches and pasted on the proforma on exam day. UPSC's recruitment advertisement sets the same 300 KB ceiling for the photo and the signature, with a 20 KB floor. It is also the CV number: Naukri's own upload page stops at 300 KB. Every one of those rules is a window, not a line, so smaller is not always better. This page caps the top, and the readout under each result prints the bytes, so you can see the file sits above the floor. A scanned page is the hard case, and the budget carries it. Our 9.8 MB camera photo landed at 292.8 KB with all 4964×2782 pixels intact, and a phone scan has far fewer pixels than that. Our 576.8 KB reference photo kept all 1920×1280 pixels at 299.3 KB.

Can I compress an image to 400 KB instead?

Yes. Change Max file size to 400 KB; the field takes any number from 10 KB up, not only the 300 this page arms, and the result lands at or under whatever you type. Our 9.8 MB camera photo kept all 4964×2782 pixels at 292.8 KB under 300 KB, so a 400 KB rule is easier still.

What does “300 KB photo size” mean?

The file’s weight on disk, not its pixels: a JPG at or under 300 KB. When a portal also rules on pixels, it states them separately, in px or cm, and the crop tool’s presets cover that rule.

Questions, answered

The cap is already armed above. One drop settles most of these.

Will the result be exactly 300 KB, or under it?

At or under, never over: that is the whole guarantee. The search maximises quality within the budget, so a result lands close beneath the cap when the image needs the room and further under when it does not. Under this page's 300 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 292.8 KB and our 576.8 KB reference photo at 299.3 KB. The readout under each result prints the exact bytes.

Does reducing the dimensions help an image compress to 300 KB?

Enormously: pixels are what bytes pay for. Under this 300 KB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo kept all 4964×2782 pixels and landed at 292.8 KB, so quality alone paid for the bytes. For a tight target, set Max resolution in Advanced settings yourself: it gives the quality search far more room to keep the face sharp. The engine shrinks a picture on its own only when the cap demands it.

What do "compress image in 300 KB", "compress image less than 300 KB", "300 KB converter" and "JPG 300 KB" mean?

The same thing portals ask for in their own words: a file that comes out as a JPG at or under 300 KB. This page is that converter. It preselects JPEG output, arms the 300 KB cap, and prints the exact bytes beside the result, so the words on the form and the file you upload finally agree.

What size should the NEET postcard photograph be?

In the NTA's NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin it is a printed 4 by 6 inch colour photo with a white background, pasted on the proforma downloaded with the admit card. It is not uploaded, so it has no KB size. The 50 KB to 300 KB rule came from the NTA's 2020 notice, and the 2025 bulletin set the postcard upload at 10 KB to 200 KB.

Why does my CV upload fail at 300 KB?

Naukri's CV upload page accepts Word or PDF files only, at a maximum of 300 KB. A CV built from scanned pages or full-size photos overshoots that easily. The compressor takes images, not documents, so the fix is to cap each page image and rebuild the PDF. The image-to-PDF converter caps every page and assembles the file; divide the limit by the page count and type that as the cap, so the total lands under it.

What if the portal also sets a minimum size?

Stay inside the window and read the number. The NTA's NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin gives its PDF certificates a 50 KB floor and UPSC's recruitment advertisement a 20 KB floor. India's e-Visa page sets a 10 KB floor for the passport-page PDF. The cap only sets the top. The result's readout prints the exact bytes, so check you are above the floor. A file under it is usually a small scan; rescan at a higher resolution and the bytes follow.

How do I get a scanned passport page under 300 KB?

Scan the page flat, crop to its edges, and drop it; a page is mostly white, which JPEG stores cheaply, so the text keeps its edges. India's e-Visa page wants the passport bio page as a PDF of 10 KB to 300 KB; the image-to-PDF converter's 300 KB page caps the page image and wraps it. Check the readout: that rule has a 10 KB floor as well as a ceiling.

Can a large image be reduced to 300 KB?

Yes, and without shrinking it. Our 9.8 MB camera photo, 4964×2782 straight from the camera, came back at 292.8 KB under this cap, about 33 times smaller, with every pixel kept. Files up to 30 MB are accepted per image, in JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and iPhone HEIC. The quality search finds the fit on its own; the dimensions only give at caps far below this one.

How many images can I compress to 300 KB at once?

50 per batch, one cap on every file, one ZIP back with the filenames kept. Each row prints its measured size, so a folder of application documents is one drag and one check of the readout. Where a form gives its files different numbers, as the NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin does for the photo, the signature and the certificates, run each kind at its own cap. The free allowance is 300 images a day, with no account.
