The 3 MB cap is already set. Drop your image and it comes back at or under the number, guaranteed, with the most quality the budget allows. Built for LinkedIn Page images, the New Zealand visa photo and Australian visa photos. Part of the image compressor, with your number as the hard ceiling.

A page for each number, arriving with the cap already armed. Under it, or a clear error, and never over.

How to compress an image to 3 MB, at or under the number
Drop your image: the 3 MB cap is already armed, and the result comes back at or under 3,000,000 bytes, never over. EXIF and GPS come off every output, and files are wiped automatically. How the search trades quality against pixels, and the camera photo at every cap, are on the compress image to 50 KB page. Pixels the real problem? Resize image. The portal dictates the crop too? Crop image.

Every byte count is the size of the actual file our engine produced from the named source, the same bytes you would download, not an estimate. The reference photo is one of our own photographs, an iguana on a branch, and the camera photo is a real one too. Drop your own file into the tool above to rerun any of them. How we measure names the sources and the settings.
The 3 MB jobs: LinkedIn Page images and two visa photos
Three megabytes is a business-profile number and a visa number. LinkedIn's image specifications for Pages allow PNG or JPEG files of at most 3 MB, the logo and the cover image included. Immigration New Zealand wants a visa or NZeTA photo between 512 KB and 3.14 MB, a JPG or JPEG in portrait at 3:4. Australia's ImmiAccount wants digital photographs between 70 KB and 3.5 MB each. The cap here is 3,000,000 bytes, under all three ceilings. It rarely has to work hard. Our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 2.6 MB with all 4964×2782 pixels, the highest quality the search offers, and above both visa floors.
Image compressor to 3 MB, photo compressor to 3 MB, resize image to 3 MB: one page
Image compressor to 3 MB, photo compressor to 3 MB, resize image to 3 MB, 3 MB converter, JPG 3 MB, 3 MB photo size: one job, a file at or under 3 MB. Compress image to, in, under, below or less than 3 MB: this page, with the cap armed.
What does “3 MB photo size” mean?
The file’s weight on disk, not its pixels: a JPG at or under 3 MB. When a portal also rules on pixels, it states them separately, in px or cm, and the crop tool’s presets cover that rule.
Questions, answered
The cap is already armed above. One drop settles most of these.
Q:Will the result be exactly 3 MB, or under it?
At or under, never over: that is the whole guarantee. The search maximises quality within the budget, so a result lands close beneath the cap when the image needs the room and further under when it does not. Under this page's 3 MB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo came back at 2.6 MB, and our 576.8 KB reference photo, already under the cap, came back untouched. The readout under each result prints the exact bytes.
Q:Does reducing the dimensions help an image compress to 3 MB?
Enormously: pixels are what bytes pay for. Under this 3 MB cap our 9.8 MB camera photo kept all 4964×2782 pixels and landed at 2.6 MB, so quality alone paid for the bytes. For a tight target, set Max resolution in Advanced settings yourself: it gives the quality search far more room to keep the face sharp. The engine shrinks a picture on its own only when the cap demands it.
Q:What do "compress image in 3 MB", "compress image less than 3 MB", "3 MB converter" and "JPG 3 MB" mean?
The same thing portals ask for in their own words: a file that comes out as a JPG at or under 3 MB. This page is that converter. It preselects JPEG output, arms the 3 MB cap, and prints the exact bytes beside the result, so the words on the form and the file you upload finally agree.
Q:Will a 3 MB photo pass Immigration New Zealand's photo check?
On size, yes. Immigration New Zealand wants a visa or NZeTA photo between 512 KB and 3.14 MB, a JPG or JPEG taken in portrait at 3:4. This cap stops at 3,000,000 bytes, under the ceiling, and our 9.8 MB camera photo landed at 2.6 MB, well above the floor. The shape is yours to set: crop to a 3:4 portrait first, then drop the photo here.
Q:Why does New Zealand say 3.14 MB and not 3 MB?
Most likely because the limit was set in binary units. Three binary megabytes are 3 × 1,048,576 bytes, or 3,145,728, which prints as 3.14 MB when counted in thousands. Five hundred binary kilobytes are 512,000 bytes, the 512 KB floor. This cap counts decimal megabytes, 3,000,000 bytes, so the file is under the ceiling by either count.
Q:What is the maximum image size for a LinkedIn company page?
3 MB. LinkedIn's image specifications for Pages say every image must be a PNG or JPEG file of at most 3 MB, the logo and the cover image included. Our 9.8 MB camera photo breaks it as it comes. Drop it here and it leaves as a JPEG under 3,000,000 bytes; switch the picker to PNG for a logo with hard edges. A personal profile photo is allowed 8 MB, and the 8 MB page arms that cap.
Q:Is 3 MB enough for a high-quality photo?
For a camera photo like ours, more than enough. Our 9.8 MB, 4964×2782 photo came back at 2.6 MB under this cap with every pixel, at the highest quality the search offers, so the cap cost it nothing. A file gives something up only when its pixels need more than 3 MB at that quality, as a PNG does: the same photo weighs 15,050 KB as a lossless PNG.
Q:How do I compress a photo for an Australian visa application?
Drop it here: the 3 MB cap is armed and JPEG output preselected, the one type ImmiAccount's photo step accepts. Australia's Home Affairs page wants digital photographs between 70 KB and 3.5 MB each, and other documents up to 5 MB. A file under 3,000,000 bytes sits inside the photo window with room; a scanned document, which may be larger, has the 5 MB page.
Q:Can I compress several photos to 3 MB at once?
Yes, up to 50 in one drop. Each file gets its own quality search against the same 3,000,000 bytes, and the ZIP returns them all at or under the cap with each size printed. A LinkedIn Page's logo and cover, or a family's visa photos, go through in one run. A file already under 3 MB comes back as it was, unless it carries metadata to strip.
